Quick Tips: Getting Support From Family & Friends - 1
1. The “Don’t Be a Nutritional Nutcase” Rule:
“Nutritional Nutcases” make a public service announcement along with a health warning for every calorie others take in. Of course, trying to improve others by being judgmental never works.
The better way is to do the right thing. When others see actual results, they are much more likely to join in and give support.
2. Make Gradual Changes:
If the changes in your lifestyle are drastic, it will be very difficult to get your family and friends to support you. For example if you ban the video games for a “family exercise hour” every evening, no one will enjoy the activity.
Instead, if you introduce a fun way to exercise over the weekend and gradually introduce similar activities during the week, it is much more likely to be sustainable.
3. Educate Them:
Tell your family and friends about Zlimmer! and let them see first hand how it could work for them. Once they understand that even minor adjustments can go a long way in weight management, they are much more likely to join you.
4. Get Involved In Partner Dancing:
Get into a dance like Salsa and this will get your partner involved as well. Get a good “How-to” video on dancing and learn to dance. Not only will this burn 300-500 calories/hour, it will be a lot of fun.
5. Create A Family Fun Day:![]()
Without emphasizing the exercise part, get your family involved in physical activities that they may enjoy. This way everyone can get the exercise they need without anyone feeling that the exercise is a part of a dreary routine.
Family Fun Day Ideas: Backyard Soccer Tournament or Day Hiking.
6. Eat Tasty Foods:
We have proven time and again that reducing your calorie intake doesn’t mean eating tasteless, barely edible, fitter for goats type food. Get tasty but better options whether cooking at home or eating out and your family and friends won’t even be able to tell the difference.
7. Get A Cool Gadget That Everyone Can Enjoy:
Get something like Wii, DDR, Air Hockey or a Ping Pong table. Your entire family (and a few friends) will queue up to get exercise!
