Fun Exercise Ideas: Swing Dancing
Swing Dancing represents many types of fast-paced, energetic, partner dances like:![]()
- Lindy Hop
- East Coast Swing
- Jive
- West Coast Swing
- Balboa
- Charleston
From Swing Music to R&B to Country & Western, the music used for swing dancing is fast and exciting to listen to. And all this makes swing dancing a lot of fun and a great workout.
What Type Of Swing Dance Should I Learn?
Lindy Hop is probably the most popular across America but while respecting the unique heritage and the variations of all the dances, we would recommend any of them. All of the types we’ve listed above are tons of fun to do and are very good exercise as well.
Calorie Burning Potential:
For most forms of Swing, the calories burned would be the same as calories burned in general dancing, which are (for 1 hour of dancing):
At 130 Pounds: 270 Calories
At 155 Pounds: 320 Calories
At 190 Pounds: 390 Calories
At 225 Pounds: 460 Calories
At 250 Pounds: 510 Calories
So if you Swing Dance 5 Hours/Week for a year and you’re burning 300 calories/hour at your weight, this would result in:
5 x 50 x 300 = 75,000 Calories Burned (21 Pounds/10 Kilograms Lost)
