Fun Exercise Ideas: Air Hockey
About Air Hockey:
Air hockey is a game played by two players with each player trying to score points by dropping the puck in the opposing player’s goal. It’s played on an Air Hockey table, similar to the one pictured on the left.
Exercise Potential:
If you have doubts about the exercise potential, just find an Air Hockey table in your local arcade and challenge a friend to a game. You’ll find that the game will soon become very competitive and you’ll both get some good exercise out of it.
Equipment Needed:
Firstly, you need an Air Hockey Table. Air Hockey table prices vary significantly. For example:
- The Simpsons Air Hockey Table is priced at $80
- Harvard Polar Air 6-Foot Hockey Table at $330
- While a high-end Gamenamics 8-Foot Jet Hockey Table with Overhead Score is at $600

You’ll also need pucks and strikers. These are pretty inexpensive. E.g. This set of 2 strikers & 2 Pucks is at $18.00.
Possible Issues With Getting An Air Hockey Table:
You bought the table, it was great for a few months but now you’re getting tired of playing Air Hockey. We believe that even if you can get 4 really good months out of it - it’s still a good deal.
Here’s why: If you get 10 hours of exercise per week for 16 weeks with the table, and you burned a conservative 250 calories an hour, this comes to:
10 x 16 x 250 = 40,000 calories (11 Pounds / 5kg lost). So it gave you pretty good exercise for those 4 months.
Now if you keep the table in good shape, you can sell it off on eBay or to a friend after you get tired playing Air Hockey.
So let’s say you bought a new one for $500 and sold it for $200. That’s $300 or $75/month for 4 months of good exercise, still a good return.
Alternatively, instead of getting a new table, buy it off eBay from any high rated seller.
