25 Ways To Make Walking Fun - Part 2
9. Get a Dog:
Exercising your dog is a great motivator to get some exercise yourself. If you don’t have a dog (and you don’t want to get one), offer a neighbor or a friend to walk theirs.
10. Start Slowly:
You know what really takes the fun out of things? Being injured. Think long-term and start with 15-20 minutes of walking and build from there. The most vigorous exercise done once is useless and even the most basic exercise done regularly will be a big boost to your weight management goals. So start slowly and make sure it’s enjoyable.
11. Get Jumping Stilts:
Jumping Stilts have a spring in each stilt that allows you to jump up to 6 feet. Imagine yourself being 8 feet tall and able to make giant leaps.
How does this help you in walking?
As any superhero will tell you, being 8 feet tall and able to make giant leaps is a lot of fun. Once you learn to walk in the stilts (which is actually not very hard), the everyday walk in the park will never be boring again.
12. Discover New Neighborhoods:
Drive around first and check out new neighborhoods. A change of scenery will make the walk a lot more interesting. If you come across a route that has rolling hills, you’ll also get a better workout. Caution: Make sure the neighborhood is safe before you go there.
13. On hold? Start Walking:
Ever called customer support of a company and got the following message:
“All operators are currently assisting others. Thanks for your patience. An operator will be with you shortly.” Yes, we all have.
Whenever you’re put on hold by an operator (or a machine), start walking. It’ll make both the walk and the wait much more entertaining.
14. Find a Place in Your Neighborhood that has The Most Beautiful Sunrise:
For those of you working late or who get up early in the morning, find a place in your neighborhood that has the most beautiful sunrise. This could be a hill or a beach. Find out the sunrise time each day & set off with an aim to watch the sunrise. Relax while the sun appears, than walk back.
This is a great way to find time to meditate as well.
15. Go Window Shopping:
Go to a mall or your city’s downtown shopping area. Walk around and see what’s on sale. If you come across a shop that you’d like to check out, make a mental note of it and come back when you want to take a breather.
16. Contemplate:
Watch a 15 minute news report or read an internet discussion on an important issue facing the world before you go on the walk.
Than simply think while walking. What can you do to help improve this situation? No matter how big the issue, don’t hold back in generating ideas. Some of the greatest ideas have come from simple, quiet contemplation.
Your next 10,000 steps may help improve the lives of many. It will certainly make your walk a lot more interesting.
