Zlimmer! Snack Guide: Donuts

homer-simpson-doughnut.gifSimple Tips To Manage Your Weight While Still Enjoying Donuts:
1. Go With Donuts That are Plain on the Inside:
A general rule with donuts is that if the donut doesn’t have any fillings inside, it will have fewer calories (even if it is chocolate coated or sugared), E.g.:
Plain Donuts = 200 Calories
Chocolate Covered Donuts = 210 Calories

2. Crème or Jelly Filled = Many More Calories:
If a donut has crème or jelly inside the donut (not just on top of it), e.g. crème filled chocolate donut or a Jelly filled donut, it will have many more calories.
The average for a crème filled donut is 300-350 calories.

3. Know The Numbers:

For example, a peek at Calories in Krispy Kreme Donuts tells us that there are many delicious donuts in the 200-250 range, like Cinnamon Twist at 230 Calories and Chocolate Iced Glazed at 250 Calories. While something like Caramel Kreme Crunch is at 350 Calories.

As always, these are the only numbers that matter when it comes to managing your weight.

4. Skip The Low-Fat Versions:
Donuts have to be deep-fried, that’s how they’re made. Even if there are alternative methods of cooking available, like the one used by Holey Donuts, the donut still has no significant reduction in calories. So with low-fat donuts, chances are that either the total number of calories will be about the same as regular donuts or you’re sacrificing the taste.

Therefore, at this stage we recommend avoiding any low-fat versions.

5. Get the Freshest Donuts (or Not!):
Here are two ways to get the freshest donuts:

How will this help you in managing your weight? It can do one of two things:

If you’re experiencing more of the second from fresh donuts, look to avoid the Hot Light instead!
