Zlimmer! Eating Guide: Subway

subway_logo_220_145.jpgWhen it comes to managing your weight, Subway is the single best restaurant franchise in the world. The number of delicious choices of sandwiches under 350 calories is excellent.

Zlimmer! rates Subway so highly that instead of our usual guide - where we give you ideas on eating better at your current favorite fast food - we’ll do a little experiment and see what switching to Subway can do for you. Of course there are plenty of sandwiches at Subway that are not recommended as well, those follow at the end.

The Switching To Subway Experiment:
We’re going to start with an assumption that your daily requirements are 2,200 calories. What you’re trying to eat on a daily basis is 400 calories less to lose weight. So right now your target is: 1,800 calories per day.

What You May Be Getting From Your current Fast Food:
A Small meal at most Fast Foods is about 1,200 calories. A large meal goes up to and beyond 1,700.

So: Right now every lunch you eat is at one of the Fast Foods. You order a small meal which consists of a burger, small fries and a small soft drink. This one meal is currently costing you about 2/3rd of your daily target. If you take this option, you have 500 calories left for the rest of the day.

350 Calories Or Less Per Meal:
Now let’s make the switch. You have no time for breakfast at home so you grab a Subway breakfast sandwich, either a:

Cheese - 310 Calories or Honeyclub-01.jpg Mustard Ham & Egg - also, 310

You step out again at 11, wisely avoiding the lunch rush, plus insuring that you don’t get too hungry before you eat again and you grab a Subway Club Sandwich: 320 Calories. (310 + 320 = 630).

At 3pm you go for a Roast Beef Sandwich.roastbeef-01.jpg Add some cheese to it and you have another 290 + 50 = 340 calories for this meal.

This comes to a grand total of: 630 + 340 = 970 calories.

With the other Fast Food option, you got a small meal at 1200 calories. With Subway you’re getting 3 meals at 970 calories and not just meals where you have a little bite and chug down water to pretend you’re full - 3 very reasonably sized, tasty sandwiches.

The options at Subway epitomize the point we try to make every time - you don’t have to sacrifice and starve to lose weight - that’ll never work for the long term - you just have to make tasty, smart choices. And these choices are easily available all around us.

So conclusively, you now have another 800+ calories to enjoy for your dinner and maybe you can have a Snickers Bar (250 calories) while driving home - still a very comfortable 550 calories left for the final meal of the day.
