Zlimmer! Eating Guide: Pizza Hut

pizza-hut-logo.gifPizza Hut is the world’s largest Pizza restaurant chain with over 34,000 franchises globally. They were the first Pizza chain in America to offer a lower calorie alternative with their Fit n’ Delicious Pizza line. As we’ll discover in a moment, with the Fit n’ Delicious line as well as the Thin Crust option - there are plenty of ways to decrease the calories in your pizza while still enjoying a great taste. Let’s start with a common scenario - you want to have pizza!

Let’s Get Pizza!
You decide to order a pizza. Your current favorite is: Pepperoni and you usually get the Medium Size (12 inches).
1 Medium Pepperoni (Pan) Pizza = 2,240

Now some of you may be surprised at how anyone can have an entire medium sized pizza on their own - others would be thinking how anyone can have so little. This will, of course, vary from person to person.

What we want to do is show you how simple it is to gradually but consistently improve whatever you’re eating right now. Whether you’re starting at 2 slices or 2 large pizzas, it’s not difficult to make the switch to something that really moves you towards your ideal weight.

Going back to ordering the pizza, before you go for a Medium Pepperoni, you come across the Fit n’ Delicious Menu:

In terms of calories, they all seem great. But there’s the problem: you don’t like any of these options. You like Pepperoni and that’s not changing. You don’t order pizza all that often so when you do, you want one that you will really like. Fair enough, let’s see what we can do with your pizza:

Alternative 1:
Shift to thin crust:
1 Medium Sized Pizza, Thin n’ Crispy crust:

210 Per Slice x 8 Slices = 1680 calories (560 Calories less than the original)

Alternative 2:
Now let’s do something counter-intuitive: Let’s order the large size with thin crust.

200 calories per Slice x 12 Slices = 2,400 Calories

If you’re eating an entire medium pizza right now, your next phase could be to order a large pizza and eat half of it & store the other half for later.
200 x 6 slices = 1200 Calories (1,040 Calories Saved on the Original)

From there you can gradually go to 5 and eventually move down to 3 slices.
200 x 3 Slices = 600 Calories (or you could get 1 Personal Pizza - Pepperoni is 640 Calories).

3 slices of a large pizza is still a very filling meal - if you get there gradually.

Pizza Hut Tips:

  1. The thinner the crust - the fewer the caloriesthin-crust.jpg
  2. Ask your local Pizza Hut operator if you can order a half and half pizza (That is: Half Pepperoni, Half Cheese). This way if you’re ordering with a friend you can get 1 large pizza (with both your choices covered) instead of two medium.
  3. If you really love your pizza - and we’re not talking about an occasional fling - you LOVE it - try and see if you’re attracted to one of the Fit n’ Delicious options. You will be saving 20 - 100 calories per slice.
  4. Cut out the appetizers. Relative to their serving size, they are not going to fill you up very much.
  5. Instead of dipping sauces try tomato ketchup on your pizza.
